Cultural Insight
Tell Me Your Story
Clients often want someone they can trust and can understand the world from their point of view. Being able to connect and feel comfortable telling your therapist what is really going on with you is a vital part of successful therapy. Cultural competency or having cultural insight isn’t about just understanding different cultures, ethnicities, races and identities from a theoretical point of view. It’s about being able to hear someone’s story and understand and perhaps have also lived those same types of situations, dynamics, biases, prejudices and challenges themselves.
At WPS this is a core belief and value that is the cornerstone of the mission. People often seek someone that looks like them, sounds like them, lives in the same place or at the same economical level as them. All these things are Worldview Psychological Services 05/06/2026 Page 5 | 5 important, but if that person can’t relate to them. Their connection may be fragile at best. At Worldview, each client’s story from childhood to the present is valued. It’s the context that every client has personally experienced. What works best for that individual is defined by their personal experience. That experience is unique and meaningful, because every client is important
